Brightest And Best Local Businesses Battle It Out

By Marcus Braid on September 5, 2014 in News

Waverley businesses are set battle it out for the Brightest and Best Business Awards and the distinction of success in one of Sydney’s preeminent commercial hubs.

The clatter of people and competition in the Waverley municipality, particularly around Bondi Junction, has ensured that a wide range of businesses are operating successfully and in the running for the awards.

“The sheer number of people we’ve got is the main thing,” Waverley Mayor Sally Betts said. “If you have a look at Williams-Sonoma in Bondi Junction, it’s the first place they chose to have a store outside North America.

“They came there because of all the foot traffic around the Bondi Junction Interchange. The mall is as busy as George Street. We do have really good transport. It is a good place to have a business.”

Businesses will vie for the ‘Brightest and Best Customer Service and Business Presentation’ award and the ‘Brightest and Best Business Practice’ gong, among others.

“We are doing all this to promote our businesses and help our businesses survive,” Cr Betts said. “We know our businesses are surviving compared to say Paddington and Double Bay. They are doing really well, but we want them to do better.

“We are really keen to ensure that Waverley remains a really good economic area.

“We’ve done a huge profile on Waverley, Woollahra and Randwick and we know the majority of business is generated between Bondi Junction and the Bondi Road corridor, so we really want to make sure we are a city in our own right and we are really stimulating business.”

Nominations for the Brightest and Best Business Awards close on August 18 and the winners are announced on October 27.
