Bondi resident Marty Williams is Coaching Director at Let’s Go Surfing in Bondi and loves working at the beach. Marty shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I moved to Bondi 13 years ago and currently reside at North Bondi.

What’s your favourite beach?
Anywhere that has sand and a wave. Bondi Beach is a great place to start.

What’s your favourite eatery?
My wife and I had dinner at the Bondi Tratt the other night and it was absolutely awesome. Everything we had was delicious and we can’t wait to go back and sample a few more dishes.

Where do you like to have a drink?
The Rathouse (North Bondi RSL) is just around the corner. I get up there on a Friday night every now and then for a beer with mates.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
The Cronulla Sharks were always my favourite team growing up… you never know; perhaps one day!

What music are you into at the moment?
Anything with a three-four or seven-eight beat.

Who is your favourite person?
I would like to name a few: my wife Christina and boys Aidan, four, and Tyler, three… and of course my mum!

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I like to hang out with the family. Our boys enjoy playing at the local parks and beaches, which we appreciate too. If I’m lucky I’ll also sneak in a surf and watch some football.

What do you do for work?
I work at Let’s Go Surfing in Bondi. I started just after the Sydney Olympics and have been Coaching Director since 2003. After completing a degree in exercise science at uni, I did an honours thesis on surfing. Let’s Go Surfing was a perfect fit. I teach people how to surf and work with a team that shows people how to enjoy and respect surfing and the ocean.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
It’s fun to see people become confident at surfing and know how to stay safe on our beaches. I’m on the beach every day, so I get to stay active and spend my time working with great people.

Do you have a favourite quote?
Not just one. I love the whole poem If by Rudyard Kipling.
