Randwick Community Race Day Returns This Weekend

Don’t miss out on your chance to get down to the Royal Racecourse this month as The Randwick City Council and the Australian Turf Club partner up as hosts of the now well-established Randwick Community Race Day. The event will take place on Saturday July 7 at the Royal Randwick Racecourse and is sure to draw locals of all ages to the track.

This is the fifth year that the City Council and the Turf Club will be coming together to make this event possible, but horse racing has a much longer history in the city of Randwick. Mayor of Randwick, Lindsay Shurey, says, “Royal Randwick has a rich history in our area that dates back 150 years.” With this in mind, the mayor is quite excited that the race day has become a tradition in Randwick, as it offers the opportunity for residents and visitors alike to be a part of that long history.

The family-friendly day of racing, which is set to begin at 10:30am, will feature a 9-race lineup, including the exciting Randwick Mayor’s cup. In addition to the riveting horse races that will be running until 4:30pm, there will also be numerous activities to partake in off the track.

Mayor Shurey expressed her hope that the Community Race Day would be a great day out for the whole family, and considering the wonderful children’s activities and entertainment that will be available, it is safe to say that her hope will come true. There will be jumping castles, an I Love Bubbles Stage Show, a Fairy Princess, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, a visit from the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and much more to keep children of all ages entertained.

Perhaps even more exciting than all of this is the fact that all Randwick residents and ratepayers are entitled to two free tickets, easily redeemed online in advance of race day. To redeem your tickets, simply visit www.theATC.COM.au/RCC2018, click on “Buy Tickets” and fill out your details.

Don’t fret if you are not a resident of Randwick. You too can enjoy the day of festivities. General admissions tickets cost $15 at the door, but if you buy online, they are discounted by 30%. That is a deal you should not miss out on. It gets even better, though, as all children under the age of 18 get free entry when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

In addition to general admissions tickets, guests may also purchase deluxe packages that include picnic hampers, complementary drinks, use of the bookmaking facilities, and free parking. If you are planning to attend with a large group, certainly take advantage of the “Buy 4 Get 1 Free” option that is only available on the ATC website.

Mayor Shurey says, “We are proud to once again be able to offer the community the chance to visit one of Australia’s most famous sporting destinations free of charge,” which pretty much sums it up. The Randwick Community Race Day is an amazing opportunity for the whole family to get in on the fun and experience the excitement of being a part of one of Randwick’s most treasured traditions. Grab your loved ones, kids and friends, and head down to the track for an experience money can’t (and doesn’t have to) buy.
