Video of the Week – Double Code Red

The 2012 incarnation of the Billabong Pro Tahiti got underway last Friday. The event, held at the infamous Teahupo’o surf break, is always one of the stand-outs on the world tour.

The forecast this year looks pretty small, particularly when compared to last year’s enormous swells. In fact, the whole event was shut down last year as the French Navy labelled one of the days a ‘double code red’ and threatened to arrest anyone that entered the water.

This warning didn’t stop some of the big wave freaks from grabbing their jetskis, pulling on their flotation devices and whipping into some of the biggest slabs of water ever ridden. The Video of the Week above illustrates some of the carnage that ensued in super slo-mo. We hope you enjoy it.
