Kenya Pearson has lived in Bondi her whole life. When she’s not busy with her final year of school, she’s acting in feature films. Kenya shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here? I have lived here all my life. I was three weeks old when we moved to North Bondi.

What’s your favourite beach? Bondi Beach. I went to primary school just across the road, so I’ve spent so much time there. It’s such a fun mix of everything, it’s really buzzing and it’s great for swimming. It’s especially nice early in the morning or at sunset.

What’s your favourite eatery? Jo & Willy’s for a big breakfast, Sushi Train for lunch and Funky Pies for dinner.

Where do you like to have a drink?
I’m obsessed with chai. Mamma Mia India and the Chai Tent at the Bondi Farmers Market make really delicious chai.

Do you have a favourite sporting team? I don’t go for any one particular team; I guess just team Australia.

What music are you into at the moment? I love David Bowie; I’ve recently had ‘Starman’ on repeat. I’ve also been listening to the I Am Sam and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty soundtracks.

Who is your favourite person? David Attenborough. I just read his autobiography, and he is such an amazing person.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I love to go to the local markets followed by sushi on the beach. I have a lot of schoolwork to do at the moment, but if that’s mostly done I also love to watch dinosaur documentaries.

What do you do for work? I’m in my last year of school, but also work as an actor. My first film, Looking for Grace, came out earlier this year, which was such an incredible experience.

What’s your favourite thing about work? I just love the whole experience of acting – getting into character and working with others to create something unique. It’s a lot of fun.

Do you have a favourite quote? “I like that boulder. That is a nice boulder.” – Donkey from Shrek. It’s not particularly inspirational, but it’s a good one to have up your sleeve.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast? Don’t eat dried apricots for breakfast on your first day on a film set. It may impact your performance.
