Janette moved to Coogee from Coffs Harbour two years ago and works as a barista at Courtyard Cafe. Janette shares her local favourites with The Beast…

Favourite Beach: Coogee baby!

Eatery: Courtyard Cafe of course. The ‘Tradie’ is a must, unless they’re closed and then my next favourite is JT’s.

Watering Hole: I’m not a big drinker but if it’s before 5pm then the Coogee Bay Hotel, otherwise the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi.

Sporting Team: I don’t really follow sport but since I’ve moved here I’ve met many of the Swans players and think they’re truly good guys so I’d have to go with the Swans.

Music: Where to start… Katchafire for the reggae man, Kanye for the hip-hop, Ella Fitzgerald for the old school, Foo Fighters for the rock, Blue King Brown for the Aussies, James Brown for the funk… I could go on for days!

Person: My gorgeous neice Miss Lava, she’s not even two yet and she’s already my idol.

Weekend Activity: I work in hospitality so most weekends I’m working until about 1-2pm, after that though wherever the wind blows – the beach, the pub, shopping, cider on the balcony, etc.

Favourite Thing About Your Work: I work in a place where there is so much faith and trust in my ability and we are all treated as equals. My favourite part of the day is when I open at 6am and stand out the front for an hour and chin wag with the customers.

Final Word: If your regular cafe doesn’t know what coffee you drink, let alone your name, then come to Courtyard and I promise you’ll get a great cuppa and have a laugh too.
