Letter Of The Month: Pick Up Your Shit, Love The Place You Live

By Sandi of Bondi Beach on May 29, 2012 in Other

To the dearest doggy owners that let their dogs shit all over Bondi Beach: I’m writing this letter after enjoying the fourth freshly brewed shit in the last two weeks on the foot of my daughter’s sandals (yes, sandals)!

It’s clearly locals who are letting their dogs crap on Bondi Beach promenade, in the kids park at North Bondi and near the bins out the front (oh yes, thank you courteous dog owner who feels that near the bin is better than not at all).

Last week I caught a lady of the more mature variety letting her little Jack Russell shit right near ‘Muscle Beach’. When I asked her if she was going to clean the dog crap up she replied feebly, “Oh, I haven’t got a bag,” at which point I said that Waverley Council charges high rates for locals and high fees for tourists but one good thing from this is that they offer lots of doggy bag machines free of charge, to which she walked off with no response.

Now I had a dog and there are two reasons you take dogs out for a walk: exercise and to go to the toilet. Surely a doggy bag is on the checklist before you leave the house? Keys? Check. Shoes? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Makeup? Check. The list can be endless for some Bondi locals but I think you get my point. I’ve got to the point where I am so frustrated at this situation I have narrowed my options down to two.

The first option is when I am out playing with my daughter and she does a number two in her happy (which I can assure you is worse than my husband’s) I am just going to leave the nappy on the pavement so other animals can move in for a smell and hopefully shovel their nose in it before they greet their happy owners with a big, wet, sloppy kiss (gross).

The second option is the next time I see an owner with a dog that has just done a crap, I will put my shoe into the fresh shit and then smear my foot on the dog. Granted this isn’t the dog’s fault but it’s the same feeling I get when my two year-old gets dog crap between her toes.

The second option is my most favourable because, unlike some people, I wouldn’t leave a soiled nappy on the ground and neither would I leave any kind of litter or actually make the place I love and live in be spoilt in any way because of a very small minority of people who just don’t seem to care.

However, the second option is still high on the agenda so beware dog owners with no morals, I am one of the mummies who pounds Bondi Beach with her pram and kid in tow…
