Local Bloke… John Kapadakis From Clovelly
Clovelly resident John Kapadakis once sang Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ on Greek television and he has even starred on the Don Lane Show.John shares his local favourites with The Beast…
How long have you lived here?
I have lived around the Eastern Suburbs for over 60 years. I currently reside in Clovelly.
What’s your favourite beach?
Clovelly, because it is secluded and I don’t have to worry about sharks.
Where do you like to have a drink?
The Coogee Bay Hotel is a great start but the Sunday night Latin American theme at Souths Juniors is the best place to kick up your heels and have a dance.
Do you have a favourite sporting team?
The South Sydney Rabbitohs because of their long history. They were always in the headlines for the wrong reasons but it looks like it could be a great year for them.
What’s your favourite eatery?
Skara Bar at The Spot is my place to enjoy a meal. It is really classy and the service is great. It is also in a great spot (no pun intended).
What music are you into at the moment?
As a performer I enjoy all music but my favourites would have to be Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck. As I am an opera trainer I have a versatile taste and an ear for quality vocalists.
Who is your favourite person?
Chris Lambrousis from Park Beachside Real Estate. Of all the agents I spoke to, he was the most helpful and went out of his way to get me back into a great place in the Eastern Suburbs.
What do you get up to on the weekends?
I like to stay healthy by enjoying the coastal walk from Clovelly to Coogee. You can’t get better views anywhere and it keeps me young.
What do you do for work?
For around fifty years I have worked with CabCharge Australia but I am currently retired. Working in the taxi industry is what led to me meeting Don Lane and getting my first real shot on television when I appeared on his talk show. I still love to entertain the crowd with my singing.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
That it is over. The opportunities that I have had to explore the world though are my favourite part. My singing has taken me all over the world and I am grateful for the chances that have come my way.
Do you have a favourite quote?
“The pen is mightier than the sword.”
Any other words of wisdom for our readers?
I did it my way, so do it your way, but do it anyway.
