It’s not often that you meet grown men who worship Katy Perry for her musical stylings – but, alas, I have, and their name is as sweet as their idol.

Fresh from a New York adventure, new kids on the block Cake Shop are back in town with some brand spanking new material – ready to spread their gospel of pop right here in Sydney.

Their newest track ‘NYC’ is a personal fave – a tasty mix of electro pop set to put a smile on even the hippest Bondi scenester’s face.

This month I was lucky enough to chat to one half the band, the super sweet Cam…

The name came from… A bar in the Lower East Side of Manhattan that we thought was cool. We figured it matched our style of music too – you’ll understand when you come to a show.

We decided to make music together when… We knew we had something to make. We never sat down and discussed the style of band we’d create, we just new it had to be ‘candy’.

I’d like to think that our music is… Fun, light and makes people happy.

I always thought my music would be… Entertaining and would bring the best out in people’s nights.

My earliest music memory is… Being pulled on stage at the age of four to dance with my then ‘rock star’ uncle.

Growing up, my parents listened to… Van Morrison and Christmas carols.

The most exciting thing about the local music scene is… Discovering other local bands better than you.

My favourite venue to play in Sydney is… The Canteen in Bondi.

If I could have written any song, it would be… Can You Feel The Love Tonight by Elton John (with lyrics by Tim Rice – poor Tim never gets any credit).

If I was going to collaborate with Justin Bieber… We’d write the best pop song ever.

Boy-bands are… Brilliant when Max Martin is the writer.

If you come and see me play, you can expect… To genuinely have fun and potentially see something you haven’t seen before.

My dream gig… To support Katy Perry at Madison Square Garden.

The best gig I’ve ever been to… Was The Strokes at the Hordern Pavilion.

The moment I knew I wanted to be a musician was when… I heard my still favourite song ever: Someday by The Strokes.

My favourite cake is… A cupcake.

My biggest fan has got to be… My mother.

I’ll know I’ve really made it when… Obviously when I’m supporting Katy Perry at Madison Square Garden!

Cake Shop will be hitting local stages throughout February. For more information check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cakeshopmusic.
