Are You Warm Weather Ready?
Are you glad to see the back of winter, but worried that your warm weather wardrobe isn’t up to scratch? Don’t despair; here are a few key trends of which you should take note… and a few more questionable ones that are best left to fashion diehards.
Monochrome print –
For those who haven’t already read the memo, it’s time to embrace the classic black-and-white graphic print. If you’re game enough to go all out in a dress or full ensemble, you’d be wise to consider the size of the print and the quantity of skin on show. For most body shapes, the smaller the print the more flattering, and a little skin will help break it up.50 shades of blue – Look out for the new colour trend for both womenswear and menswear for Spring Summer 13/14. Wear it in any shade: royal blue, electric blue, turquoise, pale powder blue and everything in between. This colour trend extends to accessories and even beauty products – think powder blue nails and bright blue eye shadow.
White – While we’ve seen this spring trend before, this time round I’d suggest you seriously stock up on Napisan. With a clear monochrome palette at play you’ll be wearing white on white and black on white all season long (when your clothes aren’t soaking in buckets of bleach).
Pastels – Pastels are back but with more textures like lace, embroidery and lots of detail.
Digital prints – High voltage digital prints continue to rock the runways – it’ll be hard not to keep your eyes out for this enduring trend.
Minimalist styling – This look relies on soft structure or clever patterning. Clothes must flatter and fit perfectly. Superior grooming is essential to rock this look. Keep your eye out for ladylike touches in lace as well as cut-outs and sheers worked into designs.
Midriff reveal – Unlike the 80s and 90s, this trend is not at all about flashing navels or belly button rings. This season, midriff tops or sheer panels of fabric at the mid-section reveal only a small area of flesh (read abs of steel not fluff-filled belly buttons).
Perspex clutches – This is not one I’ll be embracing. Do you really want the world to see what you carry daily – phone, wallet, lipstick and other surprises? Enough said.
