Local Chick… Claire from Kingsford

Kingsford local Claire Whelpton is the Director of Romance at her romantic occasions business, Buy the Cow. Claire shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I’ve lived in Kingsford for nearly four years now.

What’s your favourite beach?
Maroubra. I have two kids who love to paddle at the south end and play in the park there.

What’s your favourite eatery?
I’m still looking for that perfect restaurant where I can choose from more than one or two vegetarian options. Kling Thai is always a great option and Out Of The Blue has a smashing veggie burger.

Where do you like to have a drink?
I have to admit I am a teetotaller most of the time, apart from special occasions, weddings and Christmas parties, etc. I tend to get tipsy very easily so I usually only drink when dancing is involved… and serious conversations are not.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
I am originally from Wollongong, so the Dragons.

What music are you into at the moment?
I’m still on a Pink high from the concert a few weeks back. I also like top 40 and RnB; it takes me back to my pre-mum days at the Palace.

Who is your favourite person?
My famous favourite people are Jackie Chan and Mr Chow from The Hangover. My non-famous favourites would have to be my kids; they make me laugh every day and inspire me to see the wonder in things I would ordinarily overlook.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I’m usually at the gym or hanging out with friends. We live in an awesome street; it’s like a little community. We have a veggie coop and spend a great deal of time house-hopping with the neighbours.

Do you have a favourite quote?
“Be kind to one another” – Ellen. Oh, and a shameless plug for my business:
“Q: Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free? A: Because milk has a shelf life, love lasts forever.”

What do you do for work?
I am an event co-ordinator for engagement proposals, vow renewals, anniversaries and other romantic occasions. Men are often stuck for gift ideas – flowers and jewellery are kind of clichéd – so we offer the ultimate present, an experience to remember forever. What’s your favourite thing about work?
I get to let my creative side run wild, getting to know the clients I work with so I can make their event personal and unique. I especially love that moment when the lucky lady gets the surprise. The laughs and happy tears are priceless.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
I was inspired by the movie ‘Pay It Forward’. Imagine a world where everyone sought opportunities to help each other. You never know the difference you can make in someone’s life.
