Video of the Week – Don’t Drop In On A Kiwi
Surf Rage : Kiwi vs Brazillian from GoSurf.co.nz on Vimeo.
This video has been doing the rounds a bit since it popped up on Stab magazine’s website a couple of days ago, and it’s too good not to share.
For those of you who don’t surf, ‘dropping in’ is basically when you take off on a wave that another surfer is already riding. The video above is the perfect example of a drop-in (and a very bad one at that).
Dropping in is obviously frowned upon (as is ‘snaking’, but that’s a story for another day) as it can be dangerous and it essentially ruins the wave for the person who is in the best position to ride.
Drop-ins are not uncommon in Bondi, and they often result in some harsh words and on the odd occasion, a physical exchange.
The example above is one way to deal with someone who blatantly drops in on you. In this case, it’s a Kiwi fella taking out his anger on a Brazilian with no respect for the surfers’ code. I must practice this maneuver.
