Q & A With the Boys from Bondi Rescue

By Madeleine Gray on March 15, 2016 in People

Returning for it’s 11th season on March 15, 8pm on TEN, Bondi Rescue is an Aussie television staple. Here, we get together two of this season’s stars – newbie Jackson Doolan and old hand Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins – to tell us a bit about what to expect this season, their reasons for being involved, and who the hottest lifeguard is.

Jackson, why did you want to join the team at Bondi?

I made a decision mid last year to relocate down to Sydney for a fresh start. I had been a Lifeguard for a bit over a year on the Sunshine Coast, and I think it’s nearly every lifeguard’s dream to take a job at the most iconic beach in Australia. When I got offered the job in September, I found it impossible to refuse.

What has surprised you the most about being a Bondi lifeguard?
The biggest surprise I have encountered was probably the amount of rescues I’ve had to perform over the summer. In comparison to my old job back home, I would probably pick up more patients in one busy day at Bondi than one whole summer on the Sunshine Coast.

What advice has Hoppo given you?
I remember on one of my first days here Hoppo gave me some great advice about prioritising every situation. All of the beaches (Bondi especially) are known to throw any type of situation at you so you can’t get afford to spend too much time attending to only minor incidents.

As a newbie with a relatively objective stance, who do you think is the biggest hottie of season 11?
Even though he is one of the old dogs, Harries would kill me if I didn’t say he was. The bloke spends too much time in the tanning booth for the boys not to appreciate his natural beauty.

Hoppo, what can we expect to be different about this season?
Three new lifeguards along with plenty of humour and unique rescues.

Who is the biggest larrikin this season?
Jethro is fast becoming our lifeguard larrikin.

What is your favourite thing about being a Bondi lifeguard?
Lifestyle and saving people’s lives.

What advice do you have for Jackson?
Keep learning the ropes and you will become an excellent lifeguard.
