Picturesque Garden talk & morning tea
Waverley Cemetery opened in 1877 in the picturesque cemetery design of the mid-to-late 19th century with a layout in geometric style of that similar to be found in Pere La Chaise Cemetery in Paris and London’s Highgate Cemetery. It reflects the changed moral standards and religious philosophies of the Australian community in the Victorian period.
This change in attitude from fear to hope is reflected in the plantings and setting of Waverley Cemetery shown by the evergreen stands of Norfolk Island Pines, evergreens being a symbol of hope, grassy plots and other traditional plants of morning.
