Clovelly Couple Take Their Country Music To The World
Clovelly hardly seems like the home of country music, but for Aussie artists Mark and Jay O’Shea, that is exactly what it has become. The husband and wife team, better known simply as ‘O’Shea’, has skyrocketed to success in the space of just a few years. Their singing and song writing skills have not only taken them around the globe, they’ve also helped them achieve some notable feats including releasing their debut album ‘Mr & Mrs’ in 2011, picking up the Golden Guitar for Best New Talent at the 40th Annual Country Music Awards in 2012, having their second album ‘One + One’ debut in the top three on the ARIA Country Chart, and supporting Sir Cliff Richard on his Australian tour earlier this year, playing to over 50,000 people.
“We never thought we’d become a duo, and it’s turned out to be really fun. We are lucky enough as partners to experience the highs and lows together, having your best friend by your side,” Jay told The Beast.
While they’re currently based in Nashville, Tennessee with their two young daughters Finley and August, the O’Sheas jump at the chance to come home to tour and ‘top up’ on the Australian lifestyle.
For the last six years they’ve spent most of their time in the Eastern Suburbs, calling Clovelly home. They can’t pass up the opportunity to quench their thirst at the Clovelly Hotel or relax with a coffee at Sea Salt down by the beach.
“Clovelly is such a perfect spot to raise kids. Whenever I take my girls there I really enjoy it as there are lots of other mothers and it’s really family-orientated, but it’s still quite young and has a really good heartbeat about it,” Jay said.
The O’Sheas have been nominated for four Golden Guitar Awards at the upcoming 2014 Tamworth Country Music Awards on January 25 and they are hoping to be back in Australia in April this year. For details of their upcoming tours, visit www.therealoshea.com.
