Arts Bits and Pieces – October 2017

The best picks of the East and surrounds when it comes to the arts this October!

Do You Have PLANS?
PLANS is the new web series we are addicted to, about a bunch of young mates living in Sydney, and navigating their relationships, their evolving identities, and all the hard stuff in between. Each episode focuses on one character in the group. You might recognise a few familiar faces in the show – Kate Hardy, who played Fleur in 2013’s SYD2030, a viral hit about law students at the “University of Eastern Sydney,” plays Janine. Johnny Emery plays Koby, and also starred in SYD2030. Reunion!

Get Lost In Paradise
The full Lost Paradise line-up is now here and it is pretty phenomenal. Held over New Years from December 28 2017 to January 1 2018 in Glenworth Valley, acts will include RÜFÜS and Matt Corby leading a line-up of 76 local and international artists, including Swedish electronic outfit Little Dragon, the magnetic Meg Mac, Sydney trio DMA’s and Melbournian indie-pop band Client Liaison. Tickets are now on sale at www.lostparadise.com.au, so get lost.

What if Romeo & Juliet Were True Blue?
Just when you think that there can’t possibly be another take on Romeo & Juliet, a new production proves once again that Shakespeare’s masterpiece has still got it. A contemporary version of the classic play, set under the stars of Bondi Pavilion Amphitheatre, will be playing as part of Sydney Fringe 2017 during September 21-30 at Bondi Pavilion Amphitheatre. Set in the Hunter Valley, the Capulets are rich from coal, the Montagues are rich from horses, and they have been feuding bitterly for generations. Buy tickets at sydneyfringe.com.

Music at North Bondi RSL
It’s understandable if you don’t automatically think of North Bondi RSL as being a live music hub, but it’s fast becoming that way, with a string of live shows set to be performed in the coming months. Cast your aspersions about tribute bands aside, because we all know for a fact that they are always a bloody good time. Just let your snobbery drift away, and enjoy sounds of Foo Fighters, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and many more. Go to www.northbondirsl.com.au.

Calling Eastern Suburbs Artisans!

Randwick Council’s inaugural Best Gift Christmas Markets are being held on 26 November & 3 December 2017 at the Randwick Community Centre & Village Green. They’re bringing together all our local, talented artisans, creatives, home-crafters and designers to establish the ‘best gift’ Christmas markets in the Eastern Suburbs. The Best Gift market criteria focuses around locally made, original, high quality and environmentally responsible gifts for Christmas. Stress-free Music Lessons For Kids
Randwick local Joanne Steel runs UKUBEBE, a centre that provides Early Childhood Music and Movement classes to help children unlock the potential of music and movement without the traditional stresses/ pressures they experience when attending competitive classes. There are no graduations or ‘wrong notes,’ just positive encouragement and a love of music. Plus it’s also a great way for the local community of young mums and dads to meet and connect.
