The area encompassing East Oxford Street, Waverley Street and Bronte Road to Charing Cross is a great place to kick start the New Year’s resolutions while burning off those Christmas kilos and having a quick makeover for those endless summer parties. With a great bunch of shops, it caters for all you New Year needs – there are gyms, hair salons, pole dancing classes, pilates boutiques, laser hair removal clinics and health food stores – more than enough well-being to satisfy your every want!

Stamp out that guilty feeling of overindulgence from the Christmas break and jump into Brasilfit to buy a new outfit so you can look as sleek as possible while working out at your favourite gym – I recommend Elixr Health Club. Or better still, why not buy a new tutu from Bloch and give ballet classes, pole dancing or pilates a go?

Once you’re done exercising you’ll feel like you deserve a bit of indulgence. Pastelaria Caravela have all you can imagine in the sweet department, so quench your cravings with one of their amazing Portuguese tarts – a taste sensation like no other.

If you’re after a relaxed catch up with friends post-indulgence, Curious Cafe is all you could hope for with its cosy, homely feel and comforting food. It’s not the only eatery either. There’s amazing Indian cuisine at Nody’s, scrumptious Italian at Amacord and loads of great lunch time outlets including Burgerlicious, Guzman Y Gomez, Neu’s Delicacy, Sushi Sushi and more. They’re all detailed in the Eating Out guide that you can download online.

Animal lovers are catered for in these parts as well. You can pick up a pet fish from the Aquarium or rescue an unwanted dog or cat from the RSPCA. Plus you can get all your supplies from Pet Barn – they have everything under the sun that a cat or dog could ever need.

If you’re already deciding what new outfits to buy once the kilos start to drop off after all the aforementioned exercise, you can’t go past the fantastic designer clothes from European Elegance on East Oxford Street and TS14+ in Waverley Street Mall. And while you’re there you might as well buy some carrot cake from Baker Friday or a salad from EAT – at least that way you’re being half good, kind of!

To finish it all off you can get your hair done at Salon Scalone and come out with a dazzling new hairdo. This unique little salon has a pool table, so you can rack ‘em and crack ‘em while you’re getting your colour done – what a way to spend the afternoon!

And if you need to buy any presents on the way home, pop into Sirocco. It has all the best children’s furniture and home decorations that will make your gift a memorable one.
