Mornings are crazy at the best of times, but a recent bout of insomnia has made looking stylish and getting out the door on time mutually exclusive. I have to admit that I found myself whipping on my workout gear to get out the door, hoping no-one would realise I had no intention of breaking a sweat that day. So to all those clients who tell me they’re too busy to look stylish every day, I hear you and I’m glad you didn’t see me!

One thing I did learn though was that I wasted hours feeling unattractive and self-conscious about my outfit in order to save just a few minutes in the morning. Your style defines you; that’s why it’s so important to regularly make an effort. It’s even simple for an insomniac to work out: if you look good, you feel great, and if you resort to workout gear every now and then to get by, hey, who’s to judge… but when that workout gear becomes your style it’s probably time to redefine what you project.

Simplify things with a capsule wardrobe then build in a few statement pieces. Whether they’re classics or the latest season’s trends is up to you. Just remember: less is more when you’re time poor.

Want to know which trends to look out for this summer? From flatform shoes to skirts over jeans and strings hanging from everything, there’s a lot to choose from. Here are some of the most enduring yet on-trend looks of the season:

Florals – From supercharged posies to tattoo blooms and 3D blossoms, florals are back in all their glory.

Pastels – We’ve seen pumped up pastels and fondant shades across runways in all the fashion cities.

Shine On – For a heavy dose of glamour bring metallics of any colour into your outfit. Go all out in a satin suit or incorporate sheeny fabrics to transition your look from day to night.

Sheers – Transparency is key once again this season. Flash some flesh in panel reveals or whole tops, skirts, dresses or shirts – basically anything goes as long as it’s see-through.

Logo-Mania – Wear your heart on your sleeve in a 90s style comeback. The more subversive statement the better.

Pleats – The pleated skirt is a star buy of the season. Luckily all sensibilities from ladylike chic to grungy hipster are catered for with mini, maxi and midi hemlines.
