January Thumbs

Up – Put Out Your Bats – This tribute to Phil Hughes couldn’t have been more fitting. A great way to pay respect to the life of a little champ.

Down – Wi-Fi Leeches – To the parasites who sit in cafes all day sucking up all the wi-fi while sipping a solitary coffee – pay for an office you cheapskates.

Up – Mini Ice Cream Cakes – For the best summer treats a sweet-toothed foodie could hope for, pop down to The Sweet Spot in Randwick.

Down – The Death of the Bondi View – Yes, it was in competition with The Beast, but it’s still sad to see another print title go the way of the Dodo.

Up – Early Evening Swims/Surfs – There are few things more enjoyable than going for a swim or a surf at the very end of a long, hot day.

Down – Bindies – Barefoot season is the best, but bindies are the yang to the foot freedom ying, and there’s a shitload of them around at the moment.

Up – Flickerfest – Get down to the Bondi Pavilion from January 9-18 to see some of the world’s best short films. Visit www.flickerfest.com.au.

Down – Playground Vandals – Smashing glass in sandpits, shitting on slides and destroying swings is about as low as it gets. Grow up.

Up – Coogee Beach Library – Bookworms will love this great initiative from Randwick Council that brings the books to you. It’s literally on the beach.

Down – Facey Politics – It used to be all about stalking your ex and checking out photos of your friends on the beach. Now it’s just politics, politics, politics.
