Surfers In A Dress

By Marcus Braid on October 7, 2014 in

On Sunday, October 12, the rolling surf at Bondi Beach will play host to a group of charitable surfers literally ‘doing it in a dress’.

Over one hundred Sydney surfers will take to the breakers wearing a school dress to raise money for One Girl, an organisation that works to give women and girls in Sierra Leone access to education and basic amenities.

‘Surfers In A Dress’ is the brainchild of Woollahra local Greg Beazley, who launched the initiative in 2012. Starting from humble beginnings, the event’s popularity has increased year on year, and this year’s fundraising target of $20,000 is four times more than what was raised in the event’s inaugural year.

If achieved, the target amount will help more than 66 girls gain access to education in impoverished Sierra Leone.

“Everyone in the world deserves the right to have an education. Unfortunately, for most girls in Sierra Leone, this right doesn’t often exist,” Mr Beazley said. “Surfers In A Dress is a simple alignment of my personal love for surfing and the passion I have for this amazing cause.”

To see the all the dolled up surfers in action, be sure to head down to the Bondi Pavilion for 10.30am.
