Local Bloke… Dror Kehati from North Bondi
North Bondi resident Dror Kehati is a stove specialist by trade and loves soaking up the Bondi vibe. Dror shares his local favourites with The Beast…How long have you lived here?
I moved here fourteen years ago and settled in North Bondi. It’s a friendly part of Sydney and being so close to the water puts a smile on my face.
What’s your favourite beach?
Bondi is my backyard. I love to take my surfboards and hit the water any chance I get, walk around the promenade and soak up the Bondi vibe or sit on the grassy knoll for some vitamin D.
What’s your favourite eatery?
We are spoiled for choice around here, but I guess if I have to pick my top three, an Olie’s chilli chicken burger always goes down well, Doughboy have my favourite pizza variety and you can’t beat Gelato Messina.
Where do you like to have a drink?
I like having a couple of drinks at the Depot on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon. It’s the best place to finish off the weekend and relax. I have my morning coffee there too.
Do you have a favourite sporting team?
I’m into basketball and follow the NBA. I’ve been a fan of the Boston Celtics ever since I was a kid.
What music are you into at the moment?
I like discovering new music. At the moment I’m into indie, so some of the bands I have on repeat are Haim, The Jezabels, Arcade Fire and J.Viewz.
Who is your favourite person?
I like to think that everyone in my life is special to me in many different ways, but the ones that have helped me become the person I am today are my parents, who I respect and love.
What do you get up to on the weekends?
Weekends normally start with a Friday night dinner with family and friends. I love an early morning surf on Saturday followed by coffee with the boys afterwards, and from then on it’s a blank canvas.
What do you do for work?
I operate and own The Stove Specialist – an oven and stove repair service. We cover all of the Eastern Suburbs and Inner West. We can fix most ovens old and new, and always with a smile.
What’s your favourite thing about work?
Every day I’m faced with different challenges. Helping people is part of my nature and my work gives me the opportunity to do so, which makes me feel great at the end of each day.
Do you have a favourite quote?
There’s a quote in Hebrew that translates to: “a wise man is the person that can learn something from everyone”.
Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
We are blessed to live in this great part of the world with a variety of cultures and traditions. Let’s embrace each other’s differences and keep this place peaceful for generations to come. And for all your stove repair needs, call 9365 2508 or check out www.thestovespecialist.com.au.
