Maroubra resident Paulo Brito is the proud owner of his fashion label BeautifulKaos. Paulo shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I’m Sydney born, Maroubra raised.

What’s your favourite beach?
Maroubra.

What’s your favourite eatery?
I’ve recently discovered Porch and Parlour in Bondi – great food and coffee, friendly service and legend owners.

Where do you like to have a drink?
The tasty cocktails and great vibe of Bar 34 in Bondi.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
The mighty Rabbitohs.

What music are you into at the moment?
All types of music but I’ve been inspired by hip hop lately. A$AP, Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, J-Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Tyga, Yelawolf… and you can’t beat watching live music.

Who inspires you?
My brothers, my family, my friends.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
The new alcohol rules have killed the Sydney nightlife. Otherwise surfing, training and keeping fit.

What do you do for work?
I’m the owner of BeautifulKaos apparel (Instagram: @beautifulkaos). Being in the rag trade I do my production in Bali and my daily routine includes anything from sourcing fabrics to setting screens and my crazy method of designing my products. If anyone would like a job in BeautifulKaos HQ helping out with distribution, PR, brand management, photo shoots and managing the website, please get in touch via www.beautifulkaos.com.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
I’ve been lucky enough to spend time in Bali surfing perfect waves, meeting different creative crew from around the world and eating fresh coconuts all day for 50 cents, not to mention the $1.50 Bintangs. I love the freedom of doing what you want in Bali without it being overpriced.

Do you have any advice for budding entrepreneurs?
I would suggest to any crew wanting to start a business to go through the government’s NEIS program. I flew through the three-month course, in which they monitor and mentor you while you start your enterprise. When I was feeling lost I would give my mentor a call and nut things out. I never thought from the day I started that I would be where I am today.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the highs and lows I’ve experienced thus far in life, the most profound life-changing experience being that my brother suffers from mental illness; the lessons I’ve learnt growing up with this in my life have really lit a fire within me to realise this dream of owning my own label and seizing the day.
