Coogee resident Rodney Sen is the owner of landmark Coogee businesses Barzura and Livingroom Yoga School. Rod shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
Twenty years, but I feel like the new kid on the block because I meet plenty of third and fourth generation Coogee families. I’m looking forward to taking my grandkids and great grandkids to Coogee Beach.

What’s your favourite beach?
Choosing a favourite beach is like choosing a favourite kid; I love them all equally. My perfect day is spent visiting Coogee for a swim with the boys, followed by Maroubra for a surf and finishing up watching the sun set from North Bondi.

What’s your favourite eatery?
My favourite eatery is Barzura for the great food, great service and the unpretentious customers. And I love to eat at Bondi Tratt, where there’s
always amazing food by Andy Davies and good service and laughs from Bad Boy Billy.

Where do you like to have a drink?
I love to have a glass of red at home with my wife when the kids are asleep.

Do you play any sport?
I absolutely love to surf and I also enjoy doing a bit of yoga.

What sports do you follow?
The Wallabies have been great customers at Barzura and they’re real gentlemen. I love to watch them play, but you can’t live in Coogee without developing a love for the Bunnies.

Whereabouts overseas have you travelled?
Sri Lanka is awesome for great surf, food and the native mongoose. I can’t wait to take a group there next year for a yoga retreat.

What music are you into at the moment?
Lykke Li, but I think I just enjoy saying her name.

Who is your favourite person?
Lykke Li, but I only saw her once on late night TV.

What do you do for work?
I work at Barzura all the time and I love it. I also manage the Livingroom Yoga School Coogee Beach.

What’s your favourite thing about work?
My favourite thing about work is meeting all the great people of Coogee.

Do you have a favourite quote?
“The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.” – Swami Vivekananda

What do you get up to on the weekends?
On weekends I like to read and watch a bit of television – when I’m not busy being a dad, husband, brother, restaurateur or yoga teacher, of course.

Any other words of wisdom for The Beast?
Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
