North Bondi quantity surveyor Tyron Hyde shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I’ve lived in North Bondi for 12 years now (and Rose Bay five years before that). When I bought my unit in North Bondi, my neighbour (local legend Bill Symonds) came up to me, shook my hand and said “welcome to paradise”. He was right!

What’s your favourite beach?
We live at Ben Buckler, so it’s hard not to say North Bondi, because it’s so close. And, having a four year-old, the ‘pee pool’ is pretty handy too!

What’s your favourite eatery?
I love Bondi’s Best fish and chip joint near the bus station at North Bondi – the cuttlefish and Hiro’s sashimi are awesome!

Where do you like to have a drink?
North Bondi RSL is definitely my watering hole. Where on Earth do you get that view and a $5 beer? (As you can tell I don’t like to travel more than 500 metres from home!)

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
Shhh… but just quietly, the Bulldogs. I grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney and used to support the Magpies. Terry Lamb was my favourite player and when he moved from the Magpies to the Bulldogs, I (as a fickle nine year-old) followed him!

What music are you into at the moment?
Sadly I can’t let go of the past and bands like Magic Dirt, Grinspoon, Powderfinger and Michael Franti are still on rotation.

Who is your favourite person?
Sandra Radice. We first kissed when we were 16 years old at a school disco, got married, had a kid and are still ‘pashing’ 25 years later! And our daughter, Taylor.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I try to get in a swim, a run, a guitar lesson and family time. Top it off with a beer at the RSL and I’m in heaven.

What do you do for work?
I’m a director of Washington Brown – Quantity Surveyors. To put it simply, I work out what things cost to build.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
We help property investors save money by preparing depreciation schedules that reduce the amount of tax they need to pay. I like to surprise people in relation to how much they can save on their investment property.

Do you have a favourite quote?
”Pay your taxes, just don’t tip them. They’re not doing that good a job.” – Kerry Packer
