Coogee resident and Hawaiian massage therapist Jaye Seal shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I have lived in Coogee since June. I was living in Adelaide before that and also Europe.

What’s your favourite beach?
Thats an easy one, Coogee. It is full of action, has a great vibe and has a lovely bay area feel to it too.

What’s your favourite eatery?
Coogee’s Le Petit Cafe and Barzura. Both have fresh and thoughtful food and I love that!

Where do you like to have a drink?
The Cuban Club for mojitos, dancing and cool Latin people – ah yes, perfecto.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
No, I tend to like to follow individual sports more. I guess the only team sport that I’m into would be Australia in the cricket.

What music are you into at the moment?
Nahko and the Medicine People and Tia Carrere.

Who is your favourite person?
There are many favourites, but if I had to choose one then I would have to say my friend Siobahn Connery. We have been close since our teenage years and since then we have travelled the world and everytime we come back to meet, we arrive anew. We love and accept each other and can have a giggle and a fun time on the dance floor.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I love visiting the markets, a beach or bush walk, catching up with friends, seeing some music, or going to a talk or some kind of community event.

What do you do for work?
I have my own business called Lomi Laka, where I offer Hawaiian Massage and traditional Ho’oponopono sessions (making right in the person’s life) at the Living Room above Barzura on Aloha Fridays! And I also share the spiritual teachings from this tradition in Adelaide and Melbourne, with hopefully more places to come!

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
When I teach and share what I have learnt, I guide people through a process, and when you see their face change as the penny drops, this is priceless – what a joy!

Do you have a favourite quote?
“The sane are only better liars than the insane.”

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
Express your love for others unconditionally. Lomi Laka. If you would like to experience Hawaiian massage, please call me on 0402 687 959 or visit www.lomilaka.com.
