Local Chick… Lisa Kelly From Maroubra
Maroubra resident Lisa Kelly runs her own swimwear and kaftan business called Lisa Kelly Creative. Lisa shares her local favourites with The Beast…How long have you lived here?
I moved to Maroubra around ten years ago from the Central Coast. I replaced one small coastal beach town with another.
What’s your favourite beach?
You can’t beat walking out your front door and down the street to the beach, so definitely Maroubra. And I don’t mind a barbie at Tamarama.
What’s your favourite eatery?
Paper Planes at Bondi is really good. I love the share menu. I also like the breakfast at Juice Box in Matraville; I pretty much live on their French acai bowl and coffee in the morning.
Where do you like to have a drink?
Everywhere! I enjoy a drink with a view so I’m loving the new Watson’s Bay Hotel. Then again, you can’t beat North Bondi RSL.
Do you have a favourite sporting team?
My hubby Brad would kill me if I don’t say the Bunnies. I said that if they won the grand final last year I’d follow them. I guess they came close enough, didn’t they.
What music are you into at the moment?
Anything happy that makes me smile. I don’t mind a little folk music and I’m loving that Riptide by Vance Joy won the Hottest 100.
Who is your favourite person?
I’ve always looked up to my dad. He’s a dreamer like me; not always realistic, but always has a vision.
What do you get up to on the weekends?
I start Saturday morning off with some exercise, maybe a beach run with a girlfriend, then spend as much of the day at the beach. I love barbecues with family and friends over a few wines in summer or a nice dinner with Brad.
What do you do for work?
Up until recently I was the creative director of Intimates and Swim, working with the Kardashians. I’ve been working on my swimwear and kaftan business, Lisa Kelly Creative, for the past couple of years so now I do that full time and have just added events styling and bridal accessories to the mix. Check out my new website at www.lisakelly.com.au.
What’s your favourite thing about work?
I love that I love what I do, and that’s pretty lucky. A friend told me that if you really love what you do you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
Do you have a favourite quote?
My mum has instilled a quote in me; it’s almost my mantra really: “Whatever it takes”. It’s gotten me through college and most of my career so far so I definitely live by it.
Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
Life’s too short not to live, love and laugh. Enjoy every second of the journey because when you look back you want to be able to say, “Wow, what a ride!”
