Video of the Week – 1970s Haka
Well the Rugby World Cup got under way on Friday night with a couple of impressive war dances from the All Blacks and the Tongans.
These days the Haka in particular is known to strike fear into the hearts of teams opposing the All Blacks but this obviously wasn’t always the case.
The above clip shows an 1970s All Blacks team about to take on the Barbarians. With the team seemingly devoid of Maori players, the Haka was lack lustre at best.
While we can’t hear the audio on this clip, given numerous players’ obvious problems with the choreography of the traditional war dance, it is probably safe to assume that many would have also struggled with the words.
Enjoy!
