Sydney WorldPride at The Pav

By James Hutton on January 31, 2023 in Arts

Come celebrate Sydney WorldPride at the Pav this February and March!

Waverley Council is delighted to present a diverse program of cabaret, comedy, film, art and craft from local and national LGBTQIA+ artists. Come laugh, cry, sing and delight at this glittering offering for locals, visitors, the queer community and allies alike! Everyone is welcome!

We’re kicking off the festivities with the opening of The Air is Electric; David McDiarmid in America – an exhibition of never-before seen photographs from one of Australia’s most significant artists. In partnership with the Australian Queer Archives, this exhibition documents McDiarmid’s travels to the gay cultural centres in America in 1977.

Then bring the whole family to the Pav for a day of free art and crafts with Fambo Queer Arts for Kids and Families. Flex your artistic skills alongside LGBTQIA+ creatives to make a self-portrait for our Rainbow Wall, make your own pronoun badge or Pride flag and get your face painted with rainbows!

Join award winning queer filmmaker and curator Craig Boreham for the screening of Flickerfest’s Rainbow Shorts. Break open the popcorn and settle in to the Pav theatre seats to watch a collection of LGBTQIA+ stories from around the world celebrating queer identities and desires.

Don’t miss out on tickets to the Sydney premier of Live and Intimidating from sensationally-talented, multi-award winning, highly intelligent, hilarious, crass, brutally honest yet warm, camp cabaret entertainer extraordinaire Reuben Kaye. This 18+ event is an explosion of high camp and filthy humour.

The celebrations continue with Paul Capsis’ critically acclaimed show Dry My Tears. Fresh from a sell-out season at Sydney Festival, this intimate performance described as “unforgettable” and “heart-stopping” charts the cabaret icon’s own journey through love and loss with joyous inspiration.

Closing out the celebrations is Bondi’s Comedy Extravaganza. Curated by award-winning comedian, writer and producer AJ Lamarque, come on down to the Pav for a hilarious and flirtatious evening that is sure to give your abs a work out!

Get your tickets today and come celebrate with us!
