When speaking to Bronte resident Jane Lea, you can’t help but feel inspired by her vivacious demeanour and genuine passion for the local community. Over the past two years, this ‘super mum’ of three girls has selflessly volunteered her time, energy and endless passion as president of the P&C Association at Clovelly Public School to raise around $150,000, all while simultaneously working alongside her husband in his Coogee real estate business and studying events management full time. Her tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed, and she was recently awarded Coogee’s Local Women of the Year by the Member for Coogee, Bruce Notley-Smith, and the Minister for Family and Community Services, Pru Goward.

Being awarded Local Woman of the Year came as a complete shock to Jane, who had no idea she was going to receive the award until the last minute.

“My husband and I went to Bruce Notley Smith’s office for what I thought was a simple meeting,” Jane said.

However, when she saw the array of people congregated and the lavish spread of delectable treats, she knew something was up.

“When Pru Goward shook my hand and congratulated me on the award I was so overwhelmed. I didn’t know whether to cry, laugh or die of shock. It blew me away. I’ve never had such a mix of emotions.”

Jane’s achievements have made such an impact on the community that she has now been invited to attend the 2014 Ministers’ Award for Local Women in Government, to be held at Parliament House on March 5.

Despite the personal recognition, Jane was quick to point out that she couldn’t have achieved what she has without the help of others.

“I don’t do this on my own. I achieved this with other people who are likeminded and want to make our community a better place,” she said.

Jane warmly encourages parents to join her in contributing to Clovelly Public School, or just to have a chat about the school community. You can contact Jane via email on jane@lea.com.au.
