With the election fast approaching, it is often difficult to know who to vote for. During the month we fired a few questions at the Liberal and Labor candidates (let’s face it, the others don’t stand a chance) in the Eastern Suburbs seats of Wentworth and Kingsford Smith to try to help make your decision a little easier…

Division of Wentworth

Malcolm Turnbull – Liberal Candidate

Why should the people of Wentworth vote for you?
I have always lived in Wentworth and understand how we need to continue to make this the best part of the best country by preserving our environment.

What do you think are going to be the biggest issues at this upcoming election?
I have fought hard in recent months on a number of local issues, such as the proposed extension of Rose Bay Marina, the proposed helipad on Sydney Harbour and the preservation of Fitzroy Gardens.

You have held this seat since 2004; are you worried at all about losing it?
Every federal election is tightly contested and I am never complacent about any election.

Diane Smith – Labor Candidate

Why should people of Wentworth vote for you?
If the people of Wentworth want someone that will proudly represent the Labor principles of fairness and opportunity, they should vote for me.

What do you think are going to be the biggest issues at this upcoming election?
Issues that look to the future such as the National Broadband Network and who can best tackle climate change.

Why are you a better candidate than Mr Turnbull?
A vote for Turnbull is a vote for an Abbott government. I’d like to think that in a modern democracy anyone should be beatable, and I want the people of Wentworth to think about what they really want: a Liberal government led by Tony Abbott, or a Labor one led by Kevin Rudd.

Division of Kingsford Smith

Dr Michael Feneley – Liberal Candidate

Why should people of Kingsford Smith vote for you?
I have lived in the Eastern Suburbs for more than 40 years and I understand the needs of Kingsford Smith. If elected, my door will always be open to the people of the electorate.

What do you think are going to be the biggest issues at this upcoming election?
Getting the budget back into surplus, helping small businesses to grow and employment are the biggest issues facing Kingsford Smith.

Why are you a better candidate than Matt Thistlethwaite?
The people of Kingsford Smith deserve more than this bad Labor government. They deserve a member who will fight for them.

Matt Thistlethwaite – Labor Candidate

Why should the people of Kingsford Smith vote for you?
I love our area and want to make it an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

What do you think are going to be the biggest issues at this upcoming election?
This election will be about Labor’s investment in our community with our Better Schools Plan, the National Broadband Network and disability care reforms, compared to the Liberals’ cuts to services.

Why are you a better candidate than Dr Feneley?
There is simply too much at stake to allow an Abbott Government to continue the Liberals’ slash-and-burn agenda in Kingsford Smith.
