The array of Christmas carol services being held around the Eastern Beaches this December will present a variety of options for local residents to get into the festive spirit.

Coogee Carols, taking place at Goldstein Reserve at Coogee Beach on Sunday, December 21 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, promises to be a relaxed night of family fun.

“The beachside twilight concert is a must-do Christmas event,” Randwick Mayor Ted Send said.

“More than 15,000 Sydneysiders flock to the carols each year, making it one of our biggest annual events.”

Carol singing will be led by this year’s special guests, The Acappella Central Singers, directed by Gary Smith, with local choir Bondi Sings featuring throughout the night.

“Come and see for yourself why it’s touted as the perfect alternative to the hustle and bustle of the Domain,” Cr Seng said.

Waverley Council’s Carols by the Sea will take place on Wednesday, December 10 at Bondi Park from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Local youth groups will kick off the festivities at 5.30pm with musical entertainment, followed by a night of Christmas favourites from 7pm with Bondi Brass, led by Paul Goodchild.

“I really encourage everyone to come,” Waverley Mayor Sally Betts said. “It’s great fun to sit on the lawn and sing carols, and have a lovely evening under the moon while watching the sea.”

Bruce Bland, coordinator of the Rose Bay Neighbourhood Group, is hoping the group’s carols service, to be held on Friday, December 19 from 5.30pm at Pannerong Reserve, will help create a friendly and vibrant neighbourhood.

“When neighbours know each other, the local atmosphere is more friendly and neighbours are more inclined to assist one another if and when the occasion arises,” Mr Bland said.

Other carols events taking place locally include Carols by the Sea 2014 (organised by the combined churches of Coogee), which will take place on Saturday, December 13 at Grant Reserve in Coogee from 6pm to 9pm, the South Maroubra Christmas Party on Saturday, December 20 from 2pm to 5pm at South Maroubra Village Green, and a Christmas carols event organised by the Watsons Bay Hotel in partnership with Vaucluse Public School on Wednesday, November 26.
