Francois Bruyns has lived in North Bondi for two years after moving here from Cape Town, South Africa. He is currently studying to convert his South African legal status in order to qualify as an Australian lawyer. To beat the boredom he’s doing what he really loves, coaching cricket! Francois shares his local favourites with The Beast…

Favourite Beach: Nielsen Park in Vaucluse.

Eatery: There are so many good ones in Bondi. It used to be Sunset Grill but now I love going to North Bondi Italian for a special occasion!

Watering Hole: Locally, the Beach Road Hotel but I love the Bligh Bar in the city.

Sporting Team: Go Springboks! I’m mad about our cricket and rugby teams, and my blood will remain green!

Music: Bruce Springsteen, Jack Johnson and Bernard Fanning.

Person: My girlfriend. We laugh constantly.

Weekend Activity: I coach Waverley and Scots cricket on Saturdays, normally followed by a BBQ and then Sundays are for the beach, sport and relaxing.

Quote: “If London married Cape Town, they would have a kid called Sydney.”

Favourite Thing About Your Work: There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a kid execute something that I have just coached him to do, like hitting a massive six!

Final Word: An English mate and I have started a cricket coaching business for kids in the Eastern Suburbs. Both of us have professional coaching qualifications. For a discounted holiday rate, you can give me call on 0424 682 798.

Anything else: What’s going on with this traffic in the Eastern Suburbs?!
