Time To Embrace Acid Brights And ’70s Glamour

By Dan Hutton on October 12, 2011 in

Block colours in muted and punchy hues are a key trend for spring/summer 2011. Look for two-toned pieces in soft silk fabrics to pair with nude shoes. Designers like Jil Sander have taken this trend one flamboyant step further with traffic stopping pieces in acid brights. Wear them either in monochrome outfits or in eye-catching block colour combos: mix and match grassy green with fuchsia and orange, fluorescent yellow with pink, indigo with red.

And this neon trend is not just in womenswear. Labels like Cheap Monday offer jeans in block brights for brave men as well as women. It’s time to once again embrace the ‘70s. Two looks are making waves – the ’70s bohemian and
’70s sophisticated glamour. Go boho with a satchel bag, rings with bold stones, piles of bangles, and long pendant necklaces. Add a floppy hat and oversized sunnies to complete your look. For ‘70s glamour by day think high-waisted, wide-leg pants in deep red wine and berry tones elegantly belted and paired with a pretty-bowed, silk blouse. And by night, channel Bianca Jagger in a Studio 54 style maxi dress that has draped sleeves and falls to
the floor in a shimmering wave of luxurious fabric.

While the days may be sunny, you can look cool and stay warm come nightfall in silk, fur and leather, and classic blazers. Make a statement with a printed silk, kimono-sleeved jacket, glam it up in a faux-fur vest, or toughen up your look with a leather biker jacket. For a sophisticated look opt for a classic white blazer or a black tuxedo jacket.
