Coogee/Clovelly plumber and larrikin Matt Scott shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I have lived in Coogee and Clovelly my whole life. I had a brief stint in Maroubra but I’m back in God’s country now.

What’s your favourite beach?
Clovelly. I learnt to swim down there and I’m a long service member of the surf club, and my little girl is starting nippers down there this year. There is no better place on Earth than Cloey at high tide.

What’s your favourite eatery?
Sauce for dinner and Courtyard for breakfast. And you can’t beat Ravesi’s for a long lunch on the balcony.

Where do you like to have a drink?
The Clovelly Hotel. There is a great crowd up there, you have all the old locals in the ‘gay bar’ having a punt on Saturdays and there are always good bands on a weekend. The staff are really friendly and they have just put an outdoor telly the size of a king bed out in the beer garden so I plan to spend many a day this summer sitting out there watching the cricket in the sun (if the missus lets me, of course).

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
The mighty Roosters. It’s a shame they were not up against Souths in the grand final. That would have been a great game and eternal bragging rights for the winners.

What music are you into at the moment?
I’m not much of a music person really. Whatever is on the radio, as long as it’s not rap or RnB – I can’t cop that rubbish.

Who is your favourite person?
My daughter Sienna; she drives me mad but makes me laugh every day. And the missus, Amanda; anyone that can put up with me is okay in my book.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
If I’m not working on Saturday I’ll be down at Cloey Beach in the morning, then up the Cloey for a beer and a punt in the arvo. Sunday is usually spent down the beach.

What do you do for work?
I own Surfside Plumbing. We work all over Sydney doing everything from domestic and commercial maintenance to new multi-storey unit blocks. If you need a plumber, please visit www.surfsideplumbing.com.au.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Not having to answer to anyone and doing a different thing each day. I tried my hand as a building manager a few years back but going to the same place everyday and sitting in an office sent me round the bend. I only lasted a few months.

Do you have a favourite quote?
Being a plumber, “your shit is my bread and butter”.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
Don’t chase men with guns.
