Randwick resident and real estate agent Mark Bence shares his local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
All my life except for a couple of years. My first beach memories were at North Bondi on my Coolite and swimming in the kids pool.

What’s your favourite beach?
Definitely Bondi. I love our harbour beaches and surf anywhere from Marourba to Bondi. I love snorkelling in Clovelly and Gordon’s Bay.

What’s your favourite eatery?
Anywhere I can get healthy and natural food like the Earth Food Store on Gould Street. And I get cravings for the ribs at Hurricanes.

Where do you like to have a drink?
I don’t drink much but I like The Sheaf, Beach Road, Watsons Bay Hotel and the Paddo Inn during winter.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
I love rugby and support the Waratahs.

What music are you into at the moment?
Lately I’ve been listening to Gorillaz, Little Barrie, Coldplay, Maxwell and early U2. Every so often I’ll throw in a Beatles disc.

Who is your favourite person?
Apart from my mum, there are a lot of people that I think have done great things. I recently learned that my great aunt, who is in her 90s, won 4 gold and 2 silver medals at the Melbourne Olympics in gymnastics. After completing my first triathlon a couple of years ago, it really gave me a sense of the commitment she must have had to achieve what she did.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
Every Saturday morning I train with a bunch of guys then have breakfast before I head off to work. I try to get in a swim or surf, a bit of yoga, ride my Triumph, spend time with my beautiful daughter Breanna and get some more work in before I squeeze in a bit of couch time!

Do you have a favourite quote?
“Nuts” – surrounded and outnumbered was General McAuliffe’s answer to surrender.

What do you do for work?
I work for myself in real estate and have a business in Double Bay. I have been doing this for many years now and love it.

What’s your favourite thing about work?
I get to meet a variety of people and assist them with the sale of their properties and help them find their next special home or investment. I also manage properties for my investors. Being my own boss allows me to work my own hours so I can have a swim or surf in the morning, which has a huge positive impact on what I do.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
Love as much as you can; love, appreciate and help your family and friends and take every opportunity as it comes. Enjoy a little bit of good life every day and live as much as you can because you might not be here tomorrow…
