Bondi Beach resident Brenda Miley spends her life teaching people to surf on the greatest beach in the world. Brenda shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I grew up in Coogee, surfing at Maroubra, Tamarama and Bondi as a kid, and I have lived in Bondi for the past twenty years.

What’s your favourite beach?
They all have their good days but you cant beat North Bondi in summer on a soft board.

What’s your favourite eatery?
There are heaps of good places to eat in Bondi these days. I love Bondi Tratt for dinner, Atlas for breakfast, and Wet Bar, Depot and Gusto for coffee or salad.

Where do you like to have a drink?
Bucket List is fun but you can’t go past the North Bondi RSL Club for the best view in Bondi.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
Well the Bondi Betty’s (my netball team) go all right but I’m a Swanny at heart.

What music are you into at the moment?
So many questions, so many options; my favourite song at the moment would have to be ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams but I don’t mind anything from Acca Dacca to Beyonce.

Who is your favourite person?
My daughter Eliza. She keeps me honest and on my game.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
Surfing, walking, swimming, socialising, playing with friends… as well as being a taxi for my daughter’s sport.

What do you do for work?
I run Let’s Go Surfing Surf School. We have the privilege of teaching people surfing and surf education at Bondi and Maroubra Beaches.

What’s your favourite thing about work?
I get to wear boardies and thongs to work every day at the best beach in the world! We get to change people’s lives one wave at a time.

Do you have a favourite quote?
“Don’t mistake kindness for weakness.”

Do you like to dance when you’re drunk?
I like to dance anytime! I don’t drink that much (anymore)…

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
My dad used to say, “We live in the best place, in the best city, in the best country in the world!” I reckon he’s right.
