Maroubra local and pilates instructor Lucia Perrotta shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I have lived in Maroubra my whole life and love this little part of the world.

What’s your favourite beach?
Locally it’s Maroubra but when I’m away I’d say The Pass in Byron or Washerwoman Beach at Bendalong.

What’s your favorite eatery?
I love all the Maroubra cafés including Zeebra, Lito’s, Molly’s and The North End Café, but you can’t go past the BLAT at Zeebs.

Where do you like to have a drink?
I’m not a big drinker but I do enjoy a beer or red wine with friends over dinner. Especially if it’s at 1a Inman.

Do you have a favorite sporting team?
The Bunnies!

What music are you into at the moment?
I’m loving chill out music at the moment; Passenger and Xavier Rudd are on the playlist. I don’t mind a bit of reggae and I’m also a closet Kid Mac fan.

Who is your favorite person?
I have two: my mum and my partner, Richie. Mum is amazing as she’s battled cancer twice and is still one of the happiest people I know. Rich- ie is my rock and the one person who keeps me grounded and happy. My mum and Richie are my biggest support network and I wouldn’t know what I’d do without them.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I work six days a week but I love a good relax with my part- ner and catching up with friends. I’ve made a habit of attending the Mar- rickville Farmers Markets on Sunday and I love chilling at Mahon Pool.

What do you do for work?
I’m a pilates instructor. I run weekly mat classes out of the Randwick Literary Institute and I take privates out of my home studio in Maroubra. I specialise in rehabilitating injuries, pre and post pregnancy strengthening, postural correction and body reshaping.

What’s your favorite thing about work?
Helping my clients recover from their injuries and become pain- free. It’s such a buzz seeing the changes and improvements in their bodies and posture over time. My clients are my inspiration and keep me passionate about my work.

Do you have a favourite quote?
“When one door closes another opens, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which have been open for us” – Alexander Graham Bell.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
Here’s a beautiful quote from Buddha on staying present, which is very im- portant in achieving happiness: “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.” Check out my Facebook page at facebook.com/luciaspilates or email lucia.p.pilates@gmail.com for more details on classes and privates.
