Maroubra resident and app developer Ritu Bajaj shares her local favourites with The Beast…

How long have you lived here?
I am originally from India and moved to Australia 16 years ago. Sydney has been home for the past 9 years. I love living in Maroubra and feel incredibly lucky to have access to such a beautiful beach every day.

What’s your favourite beach?
It has to be Maroubra with its long uncrowded expanse of sand; it’s great for a run or for soaking up the sun.

What’s your favourite eatery?
I like Luxe Café in Bondi Junction and Favoloso in Bronte for coffee and lunch, North Bondi Italian for a relaxed evening out and Vacanza Pizzeria in Charing Cross for a night with the kids.

Where do you like to have a drink?
You just can’t beat Icebergs for the most amazing view.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
I’m a passionate cricket fan so it would be the Australian cricket team, except when they’re playing India – my loyalties are questioned then!

What music are you into at the moment?
‘Radioactive’ by Imagine Dragons and ‘Mountain Sound’ by Of Monsters and Men. I also love the old stuff and have an eclectic (from my perspective) and embarrassing (from my friends’ perspective) taste in music.

Who is your favourite person?
It would have to be my family as a collective; my wonderful husband, turbo charged children and ever supportive parents and sisters.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
The weekends are packed trying to spend time as a family, as a couple and on my own. We like to go to the EQ Markets with the kids, do Maroubra Nippers over summer and fit in a visit to the beach or Centennial Park. I also like doing yoga at Yogamama in Clovelly. I like to cook and we often have friends over for a barbecue.

What do you do for work?
I have co-developed an app called My Recipe Jar, which was an attempt to solve the annoying question of “What should we have for dinner tonight?” and inject some fun into the process. So we devised My Recipe Jar – the one place to store all your favourite recipes to share with family and friends. My Recipe Jar is your own social network for recipes, connecting the people you love with the food you love.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Working to my own deadline and having a close friend as my business partner. We each have 3 kids aged 5 or under so it is a juggling act most of the time but we are both in the same boat and we feel an enormous sense of achievement.

Do you have a favourite quote?
“You are what you eat, so don’t be fast, easy, cheap or fake!”
