Josh Hay, the Manager of Communications at Randwick City Council, shares his local favourites with The Beast…

Have you always lived locally?
No. I was born and raised in the Blue Mountains. I’ve been in Sydney for about ten years and have lived in Maroubra and now I’m living in Randwick.

So how long have you lived in Randwick?
One year.

What’s your favourite beach?
It’s my local so I’d have to say Coogee. It’s just a short walk away and on a summer’s day it’s a picture-perfect postcard.

What’s your favourite eatery?
There are too many. The Spot has some great Thai, pizza and Spanish options, but the Coogee cafes for Saturday morning breakfast are great too.

Where do you like to have a drink?
There are so many great small bars these days around Surry Hills and the city. I do like Small Bar, Grasshopper, Absinthe Salon and I’ve been meaning to try Saloon Bar.

Do you have a favourite sporting team?
Being a Mountains kid I always followed the Panthers, and then when Freddy moved to the Roosters I switched teams too.

What music are you into at the moment?
I still love the ’90s stuff – Pearl Jam, Silverchair, Powderfinger, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. And I do get a kick from the big ’80s rock ballads!

Who is your favourite person?
My beautiful wife Bernadette.

What do you get up to on the weekends?
I like to keep active – jogging, cycling and fishing when possible.

Do you have a favourite quote?
I’ve read some great ones… but can never remember them.

What do you do for work?
I work for Randwick Council. My job is to make sure residents know what we’re doing and are involved in Council. Check us out on facebook at www.facebook.com/randwickcitycouncil.

What’s your favourite thing about work?
I like being around a bunch of smart, motivated and enthusiastic people trying to make our area better.

Any other words of wisdom for readers of The Beast?
The best type of peanut butter is crunchy.
