Dolphin Juniors To Stay At Bardon Park

By Randwick City Council on April 14, 2011 in Sport

Local children can continue to use Bardon Park in Coogee for rugby league training seven hours a week, seven months of the year, following a decision by Randwick City Council on Monday, April 12.

The decision follows an upgrade of Bardon Park earlier this year which included new soil and turf, more park benches, garbage bins, dog poo bag dispensers and a new automatic irrigation system.

Last night, Councillors formally approved an application to modify the existing development consent for the park to allow:

-Children’s football training from 3:30pm-7:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, March to September;
-Removable goal posts during training;
-Temporary line markings; and
-An increase in the number of children permitted to train from 21 to 60.

An independent, expert planner was engaged by Council to assess the application.

The proposal was publicly exhibited in March 2011 and generated significant community interest. A petition with more than 1,000 signatures in support was received, while 200 separate letters and 400 signatures on two petitions opposed the proposal.

There is high demand for access to limited green open space across Randwick City from different sections of the local community.
