Video Of The Week – Icelandic Tourism Campaign

Australia’s tourism campaigns have left a lot to be desired ever since the success of Paul Hogan’s “shrimp on the barbie”. In recent times, Lara Bingle’s “where the bloody hell are ya?” and Baz Luhrmann’s film promotion passed off as a tourism promotion (which didn’t do particularly well on either front) have both been deemed flops.

With that said, the recent tourism ads attempting to promote all that is good about California have definitely been far worse than our sub-par efforts. After seeing the ads on numerous occasions i’d honestly rather visit Libya than Los Angeles.

But not everyone gets it wrong when getting patriotic and giving the country they call home a good old fashioned plug. Take New Zealand, for example. Despite the recent natural disaster on the other side of the ditch, i still want to holiday there because the ads they do make it look not only beautiful, but fun. And they sell it super well.

Still, it is not the New Zealanders that lay claim to the best tourism ad. No, it is (of all countries) Iceland, thanks to their most recent campaign, which, in my humble opinion, is awesome. Check it out below…
