Randwick Council Donates To Earthquake Relief

By Dan Hutton on March 28, 2011 in News

Randwick City Council is donating $10,000 towards the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief efforts, Randwick Mayor Murray Matson announced last week.

“On 11 March 2011, the north eastern coast of Japan was hit by two natural disasters – the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and the subsequent 10 metre high tsunami.

“The twin disasters devastated the region, wiping out towns, killing thousands and causing major damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant,” said the Mayor.

“In light of the magnitude of this dual natural disaster and the massive clean-up effort needed to restore the north eastern area of Japan’s Honshu Island, Randwick Council has donated $10,000 to the Japan relief effort via World Vision Australia.”

We’re more than happy to see a portion of our parking fines and council rates going towards such a good cause.
