Big Paddle Beckons At Bondi

By Dan Hutton on November 18, 2010 in Other

It’s only one month until the inaugural Bondi Big Paddle gets underway and organisers are stoked with the mass of well wishes, feedback and entries that they’ve received so far. As race day draws ever closer, The Beast would like to take this opportunity to remind people of the race details and how to enter.

The Bondi Big Paddle is a new concept in ocean paddling and will be held on Sunday, December 12 at Bondi Beach. The Bondi Big Paddle will feature races for ocean skis, paddleboards, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) and surfboards. There will be three races on the day with proceedings kicking off at around 7am.

The main event is the 9-12 km Ocean Paddle Race, which is open to ocean and spec skis, paddleboards and SUPs, and runs from Bondi to Wedding Cake Island and back again.

There’s also the Dash for Cash, a 250m Sprint Race open to surfboards up to 6’6’ in length, and the Stand Up Paddle Race, a 2km event exclusively for SUP riders.

Up to $5000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs on the day and every entrant will go into a raffle draw with the chance to win heaps of great gear.

There’ll be a barbecue on the day to feed all hungry paddlers and spectators and the final presentation will be held at Bondi Icebergs after the race at around 2pm so that everyone can quench their thirst.

The Bondi Big Paddle is proudly supporting the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Paddlers can enter by visiting the event website at www.bondibigpaddle.com.au.
