Sarah Healey has lived in Malabar for a little over a year. She was born and bred in Maroubra and has lived around the Eastern Suburbs her whole life. Sarah has been studying for longer than she cares to admit and has accumulated an Arts Degree and a Masters in Teaching, majoring in English and History, and is now taking an eight-month hiatus from work to study a Diploma in Journalism. Her passion has always been to become a writer and writing for The Beast has definitely confirmed this! Sarah shares her local favourites with The Beast…

Favourite Beach: Maroubra, and Bondi a close second.

Eatery: The Bellevue Hotel, Paddington. Go to the upstairs bar and treat yourself to their tapas – it’s amazing.

Watering Hole: The Regis – relaxing atmosphere and ample opportunities for dancing if the mood strikes. And you always end up bumping into someone you know.

Sporting Team: Go the Bunnies!

Music: Sublime, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Millencolin, Pennywise, The Avalanches… old school memories.

Person: All my close mates – you know who you are.

Weekend Activity: Taking my staffy for ridiculously long coastal walks, going to the beach and catching up with friends.

Quote: “God bless America. God save the Queen. God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia.” – Russell Crowe.

Favourite Thing About Your Work: Writing about issues that intrigue me and interest others is the most satisfying and rewarding work I’ve been involved in.

Final Word: I know it’s been quoted before, but the first half I’d like to think I live by. The second half I just find amusing: “Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if you still don’t like them you’re a mile away and you have their shoes.”
